Clonmel Races
History
Clonmel Racecourse, also known as Powerstown Park, features both National Hunt and Flat racing, located at Davis Road, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, Ireland, in the Powerstown area of town 2 km from the town center. The catchment area of the racecourse includes Cork, Waterford, Kilkenny, and Limerick. Waterford Airport is only 30 miles away, while Cork and Shannon are each 60 miles away. The Comeragh Mountains to the south, and Slievenam to the north.
Races were already present on the current site since the 19th century, in which the races were free of charge. In 1913, Villiers Morton Jackson, the park owner, built the first grandstand, enclosed the racecourse, and charged two shillings as an admission fee. These acts are for better facilities, better prize money, and better racegoers.  Currently, the track offers 4 days of competitive flat racing during the summer months, with 9 mixed national hunts and two hurdles being staged during the winter jumping campaign.
Track Details
Flat races are run right-handed over an oval course measuring one mile two furlongs in circumference, and this circuit includes a home straight measuring two and a half furlongs in length. It has several undulations, including a stiff climb which begins a furlong from the winning post and continues around the turn towards the back. The course then has a marked descent before it eventually levels out. On the other hand, the steeplechase course is also 1 mile 2 furlongs in circumference. It has seven fences in the following circuit pattern: a plain fence on the climb after the winning post. There are three plain fences in the back straight, followed by the sole open ditch, with the remaining two plain fences being located prior to the winning post on the home straight. Then for hurdle races, the six removable flights of hurdles are positioned on the flat course, with a layout similar to the steeplechase course, the hurdles being sited adjacent to the six plain fences of the jumps course.
The catering service is by Masterchefs Hospitality, one of Ireland’s top catering companies. Moreover, it has three bars, The T.A. Morris Bar, the glass-fronted Club Stand Bar, the Supporters Club Bar. Hot Dinners, Sandwiches, Pastries, etc., are also available in the restaurant under the Club Stand that has a capacity for 1,000 people. On the other hand, the grandstand has a capacity of 3,500 people. There is also a snack bar adjacent to the parade ring that offers varieties of Fast Food, Soup, Sandwiches, and Pastries. A private room in the lower grandstand accommodates seats for approximately 150 people, while the sponsor’s room with balcony viewing has 30 seats. However, guests cannot bring their food into the enclosure.
