The track is classified in the first national category and organizes eight race meetings a year, located 30 km northwest of Nantes. However, it was originally established in 1899 in the marshes and linked to the Loire and its floods. Hence, the location changed several times, depending on the necessary terrain, before settling permanently at the foot of the power station. It is on the Pays de la Loire region banks in western France, placed on the north shore (rue de la Loire), and was also completely redone in 1983.

In 1997, it hosted the first PHH meeting (Pari Hors Hippodrome), its benchmark. Aside from PMH, it also offers Prémuim meetings and qualifications and races for amateurs. The racecourse is also its national stud farm which is well known, accepting between 200 to 250 mares each year for mating from all over the Atlantic.
