On October 2, 1889, the Charlottetown Driving Park (CDP), located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, at a site along the west bank of the Hillsborough River in the rural community of Parkdale (amalgamated into Charlottetown in 1996), was opened. It is a harness racing track for racing standardbred horses. The establishment is one of the premier race tracks in eastern Canada, often referred to as the “Kentucky of Canada”.

In the early 1990s, fire ruined the wood-constructed horse stables; hence they built concrete stables. On September 29, 2003, Hurricane Juan ruined the roof of the CDP grandstand. It led to the redevelopment of the track into a racino. The facility even had been visited with famous artists in 2006, which held the two biggest outdoor concerts ever on PEI, hosting the Black Eyed Peas, Pussycat Dolls, and others. While in the summer of 2007, Aerosmith and Cheap Trick, among others, played on the venue. Then in the mid of 2009, the Charlottetown name was revised as Red Shores Racetrack and Casino. Nowadays, Red Shores Racetrack and Casino calls itself “Atlantic Canada’s Fastest Racetrack” and is the core of Prince Edward Island’s industry of harness racing.
