The Ginger Brew
The Ginger Brew is scheduled to be run at a mile over the turf at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. They drew a field of 9 and hopefully they can keep it on the grass and off the synthetic.
Showgirl Lynne B is well traveled for trainer Bob Hess. She has dome her best running over the Gulfstream Park synthetic track where she is two for two. If this race moves to the Tapeta she gets an upgrade. That is likely her best shot as she looks in deep over the grass against these.
Isabel Alexandra will come in under the radar but can improve. While she looks a cut below at first glance she is learning and improving, and her trips have not been the best. With a clean trip and some forward movement, she can make a little noise in here.
Cairo Consort is the likely favorite and gets a major barn change to Todd Pletcher. She also comes off a decent third in The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. She hasn’t run bad yet, she will likely improve in the new barn and is a major player and the horse to beat. I will try and beat her.
Bel Pensiero has some speed but looks in deep here. She may flash some early lick, but I doubt she is around when the real racing starts.
Stephanie’s Charm is another that looks a cut below the better ones in here. She looks like she prefers the synthetic so if this race winds up there she gets a slight upgrade.
Anna Karenine is an import from France for Chad Brown and she looks like she has some talent. She’s run 5 times and only once against fillies. She is working good at Payson and Chad brings in good ones and has them ready. Her replays look good enough to compete here and if she has progressed which you have to think she has she should run big. I’ll take a shot here.
Navy Goat is the next horse I’d use if I was spreading or playing a multi race wager. She was good enough to break her maiden at Kentucky Downs and won off the bench in a stake over the Gulfstream Tapeta. That makes her dangerous on either surface and I like Rosario up.
Lady Azteca looks over her head in here. Pass.
Erna might have a future. This is a tall order, and she is anything but hopeless. I prefer the two I mentioned over her, but I would not talk anyone off her. She might need one against this kind.
As some of you may know this is Frankie Dettori’s last year in the saddle. At Past The Wire we are doing a series of articles and videos chronicling his career and Fanfare year. We’ll have lots of great stuff and you won’t want to miss it. Parts 1,2, and 3 are already done. We’ll be tracking him around the world with the grand finale at The Breeders’ Cup in November. You won’t want to miss it.
