Saturday Plays

A rainy but big Saturday at Saratoga. Big days at Del Mar and on Sunday at Colonial Downs with The Arlington Million. We’ll see what we can come up with.

Don’t forget to watch this week’s episode of Saratoga Saturday brought to you by AmWager on Past the Wire TV. You can find it HERE

At least we know The Grade 2 Saratoga Special can’t be taken off the grass as it is a six and a half furlong dirt race. It is likely to be run on a sloppy main track Saturday. I like First Resort. He won his only start in the mud at Ellis and has been working at Turfway Park on synthetic and horses training there are running very well wherever they show up. The price should be fair even with Prat up on this colt by Uncle Mo.

At Del Mar the two stakes look hard to get past the chalk. Sometimes you just take what they give, take a stab, or pass. That said in The Sorrento for me the question is which Baffert filly is faster, Nooni or Casalu? In The Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Anisette looks like she will be a handful.

In The Secretariat at Colonial Downs I lean to Fulmineo. This colt was just okay on the dirt but improved a lot when switched to the grass. He is two for two over the course and could be ready to step it up enough to win a race like this. The distance is perfect for him, and I think he will fire a good shot.

If Moira can repeat the race she ran in The Diana here in The Beverly D that should be good enough.

In The Arlington Million I’ll call it a stab with Talk of the Nation. He will have to run his best race ever to even contend and he has lacked that killer instinct at times but he stretches out here and I expect Jose Ortiz to put him on the lead and see if he gets brave. At times speed can beat better horses and I think that could possibly happen here.

It looks as if they are going to run The Saratoga Derby on Sunday as an emergency race whatever that is. I like Royal Majesty who two back could have beaten this type of field with a better trip. Last time he sat off a very slow pace and was kind of even, but I think he is moving forward and the race two back tells me on his best he can beat this kind.
