The 2021 Grade 1 Keeneland Turf Mile
We love Keeneland in the spring with the two-year-olds and the Kentucky Derby looming. We love it in the fall with the Breeders’ Cup on the horizon. Spring, fall, what is the difference, we love Keeneland.
The Keeneland Turf Mile looks like a race I may go after. I think they have the right horse in the right spot, and I am optimistic the price will be fair.
There is a full field of 13 to go through but we won’t ever complain about a race that draws plenty of horses.
Front Run the Fed has not been good since leaving the Chad brown barn. He will like the stretch-out, but he will need more help than that in my opinion.
Argentello will be a big price in here and has a nice inside draw to help him out. He goes one off the lay-off and that one was at Kentucky Downs. That is a nice course to get fit and leg up over and this one is a live bomb in my book. I’ll be using behind my key horse.
I was fortunate enough to be on In Love last time out. That was a nice race he ran at Kentucky Downs, and you know how I feel about horses coming off that course. I don’t think he repeats.
Space Traveler is interesting, and he fits with these for sure. He has had two starts for Walsh now and is likely set for his best race yet. I think he can get a piece, but I am against him for the win.
Tell Your Daddy surprised at Saratoga for the hot Thomas Morley barn. He has the always dangerous speed, but I don’t think he can lead these all the way. He should be in it for a while, but I think he weakens when it counts.
Ivar is a classy horse. He likes the course and the distance. He puts the blinkers back on and I think he will run a sharp race. He is another I will use behind my choice.
Pixelate is pretty honest and also comes off Kentucky Downs. I think he is a cut below the better ones in here.
Brown Storm is yet another who raced at Kentucky Downs last out. He has some speed but lacks the stamina he would need to pull this off.
Monarchs Glen is a cut below these in my opinion. He is better now than he has probably ever been but that is not good enough for me.
Order of Australia seems to have found the ideal spot. We know he likes the course as he pulled a major upset in the Breeders’ Cup right here. His race this year to Palace Pier stands out. He should get a nice trip and I think he takes this under Johnny V.
Diamond Oops is sneaky. I think he will like the stretch back out to the mile. At a price I can see him getting a piece and will play it that way.
I have Field Pass a cut below in here. He did win the Transylvania here last year, but this is tougher. I pass on Field Pass.
Somelikeithotbrown is another with speed. He will make some noise at some point in here, but I don’t think it will be at the wire.
