The Grade 3 Ladies Sprint at Kentucky Downs
Twelve fillies and mares are scheduled to start practically on the turn of this over the hills and through the meadows turf course at Kentucky Downs in the Ladies Sprint. Leave it to me to come up with a horse starting on the far outside.
Constantia will break from post 12 but I must imagine Umberto Rispoli will allow her to drop back around that sweeping turn and use that forever never-ending stretch to her advantage. If you watch the replay of her January 3rd win at Santa Anita, a race where some of the TRACKING TRIPS members along with myself made a nice little score you’ll see that this filly is both game and talented. Two attributes you need over this course.
On paper there looks to be plenty of pace to set up a late surge from Constantia. Part of handicapping this track in my opinion comes down to figuring out who will like it. I think this filly will appreciate the long stretch run and a patient Rispoli will have plenty of horse late and be running when it counts.
In a few of the recent losses I thought there were legitimate excuses. Last time out the 5 furlongs was just too short a distance. Venetian harbor got the jump, pace and trip the time before that. On Saturday things should be a lot more level and if we can overcome that draw and avoid any traffic jams I think she is the one to beat at a fair price.
The Ladies Sprint is the first of five straight stake races at the unique Kentucky Downs and I will be starting off with a nice win bet and a key on top of some exactas, triples, and superfectas. I think the 5-1 morning line holds, or even drifts a tad and I am fine with that.
If there were ever some races to try out dutching and using the dutching calculator on AmWager these Kentucky Downs large fields fit the bill. If you want to make sure you are covered in the race you are strongest in opinion on and go after multi-race wagers you can use the dutching system in that race and turn the multi-race bets into icing on the cake. Not a bad strategy.
