Ashburton Raceway
Ashburton Raceway is a horse-racing track in Allenton, Ashburton, New Zealand. It opened in 1878, at 35 Racecourse Road.
History
The home of the Ashburton Racing Club is situated just minutes from the CBD, just out of town heading north towards Christchurch on the Main South Highway at Ashburton and the corner of Racecourse Road. The Ashburton Racing Club was founded in 1878, running eight races annually at the Ashburton racecourse. Its membership costs $18 annually for the subscription, while the admission is free to all race meetings, including access to the Members Stand and racebooks. The current manager of the club is Trevor Robertson.
Track Details
The track is Left-handed, measuring 2100m with a 500m straight, that features an all-weather trotting track on the inside of the galloping track. The racecourse also offers quality food and drinks that welcome every guest warmly. The track celebrates Ashburton Christmas at the Races every 21 of December. They also feature other entertaining activities such as live music, competitions, and more.
Among the races held at the Ashburton Racecourse, they feature the $45,000 Ray Coupland Stakes for 3-y-o, a listed race over 1400m, and the $12,000 Ashburton Trust Cup, an open handicap over 1200 meters.
