It is located at the 3 Boulevard Yves Guillou, in the heart of Caen, the city of William the Conqueror, in Calvados, which horse-racing enthusiasts acknowledge as the antechamber of Paris-Vincennes. It is also known as the Hippodrome de la Prairie, a trotting racecourse founded in the mid-19th century on the banks of the Orne, the first French racecourse intended for trotters exclusively. Although the track was built on February 13, 1839, the first trotter race on the site was on August 26, 1837, organized by the Society of Agriculture and Commerce of Caen. It underwent modifications and upgrade in 1845 before being completely renovated in 1970. The Caen racecourse is also a benchmark racecourse in the West. It should also be noted that the Caen racecourse has the particularity of being one of the few located in the city’s heart.
