Hippodrome d’Evreux
Hippodrome d’Evreux is a horse-racing track in Évreux, Eure, France. It opened in 1905, at Rue des Marronniers.
History
It is located at Rue des Marronniers 27000, in the Navarre (Évreux) district, in the department of Eure and the Normandy region. It is also called “hippodrome de Navarre”, one of the 17 racetracks affiliated to the Ile-de-France and Normandy Racing Federation. It was established in 1905 by Count André d’Ideville, close to the castle of Navarre offered by Napoleon to his wife Joséphine in 1810. The Ideville-Lambert family owned the racecourse until 1980 when it became a municipal facility.
The city of Evreux and the Grand Evreux Agglomeration are invested in maintaining and improving the Navarre site and its racecourse, of which they know the value. The organization of the races is provided voluntarily by the Société des Courses d’Evreux-Navarre, Association law 1901, with the technical support of the Regional Federation of Ile de France and Haute Normandie races, headquartered in Rouen. Twinned with the Carrère racecourse, the Evreux racecourse organizes a meeting every year with racing on the island of Martinique as its common thread.
Track Details
The racetrack is classified as category A, with a recently renovated 1500 m long grass track with rope on the right that can accommodate 1st class races in flat and 2nd category trotting races. The racecourse track offers several racing distances: 1800, 2000, 2200, 2500, and 2800 meters. It also has a Norman-style covered grandstand that can accommodate around 200 people and, for professionals, offers 80 boxes. The restaurant and a refreshment bar enable the spectators to eat at any time of the day. It also features a Pari-Mutuel Hippodrome (PMH) on the races on its track and national betting through the PMU counter. There is also entertainment for children, daycare, and activities such as “baptisms” of ponies.
The admission fee costs 5 € for adults (normal) and is free of charge for 16 years old and below.
