Hawera Racecourse
Hawera Racecourse is a horse-racing track in 317 Waihi Road, Hawea, Taranaki, New Zealand.
History
It is located at 317 Waihi Road, Hawera, North Island, New Zealand. It travels along the main road ½ kilometer north of Hawera and adjacent to the northern town outlet on the state highway to New Plymouth. It is home to the Egmont Racing Club and Waikato Opunake Cup and is acknowledged as one of the better tracks in the Central Districts. Waikato Stud Opunake Cup is a listed race over 1400 m for open horses. This race is a lead-up to the Winter Cup held by the Canterbury Racing, and the Club offers the winning horse free return travel to Christchurch and free entry to the race. The meeting carries stakes of $212,000, which is the highest for Taranaki. Moreover, the Club is developing a $35,000 open race over 1600m for three-year-olds sponsored by NZ Bloodstock Leasing & Finance as the last chance for three-year-olds to race in their own age group.
Track Details
Egmont Racing Club Membership costs $30 per annum, providing members facilities for two at each race day.
The track has an enormous space measuring 1822m track with the straight consisting of 425m. It has two grandstands; one of them is the Members Stand with four lounges, three upstairs and one below. It can provide corporate facilities for parties up to 100. On the other hand, the Public Grandstand has large concrete steps providing excellent viewing of the course.
