Hippodrome d’Agen – Le Passage
Hippodrome d’Agen – Le Passage is a horse-racing track in Le Passage, Lot-et-Garonne, France. It opened in 1973, at La Garenne.
History
The racecourse was created in 1850 in the town of Passage d’Agen, first at the “Mestro”. It was relocated to the “La Garenne” in 1973. It is an institution in the Agenese conurbation. It is located at Passage near Agen in Lot-et-Garonne, 300 meters from the airport, 600 meters from the motorway exit, and 4 km from Agen train station. Covering 22 hectares that runs both galloping (flat and obstacles) and trotting. Famous for its races, yet also for its several themed days organized simultaneously, such as the day of rugby, elegance in the race, youth in the fields, hippo-vino, and hunting in the race. It also regularly receives financial support from the Regional Council, the General Council, the Agglomeration Community of Agen, and the town halls of Agen and Passage, generally on the occasion of investments. It is acknowledged as a National Pole, one of the main racetracks in France that regularly receives the best professionals in the area.
Track Details
The gallop track measures 1350 meters with a straight line of 370 meters. The trotting track is made of pink sand, 1,182 meters long and 20 meters wide. Its finish line offers a final battle of 320 meters, while its two turns of 87 meters each are inclined by 9%. Two departure areas supplement the track: one on the finish line allowing races of 2,600 meters, and a second area on the opposite line, offering races of 2,000 meters. The stands can accommodate 3,000 seats, while the restaurant has 300 seats. The parking area’s capacity is 2,500. There are also a snack bar, lodges, a behind-the-scenes tour of the racecourse, and rental rooms for congresses, seminars, or exhibitions.
