Emerald Downs
Emerald Downs is a horse-racing track in Auburn, Washington, United States. It opened in 1996, at Ron Crockett Dr.
History of Emerald Downs
1996 – Emerald Downs opened on June 20, 1996, with the inaugural 100 days meet running through November 4. It replaced Longacres Racetrack, which closed in September 1992 after sixty racing seasons.
1997 – Emerald Downs spent nearly a million dollars on surface improvements due to various horse injuries attributed to the old track. It also opened the $1 million facility sales pavilion on December 14, 1997, for the 1997 Winter Sale. Significant donations from Micheal and Kenneth Alhadeff and other industry members funded it.
2010 – The first Quarter Horse race in track history was held
2011 – Emerald Downs added a major Quarter Horse stakes, the $60,000 Bank of America Emerald Championship Challenge Stakes run on Labor Day weekend.
2002 – For roughly $70 Million, the land where Emerald Downs is located was bought by the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe in 2002.
2015 – After the purchase, they formed Emerald Downs Racing LLC in 2015. The Tribe also improved the 1,150 square feet (107 m2) infield big screen. Emerald Downs also hosted Indian Relay Racing in 2015.
2018 – The popular Indian Relay Racing returned on June 8 –10, 2018.
Track Details
Dirt Track
- It measures 5280 ft (1.6 km).
- The distance from the last turn to the finish is 990ft.
- Oval
- The tote board is in the center.
- The oval track and the track surface are made of geotextile fabric, washed rock, coarse sand, and one-component track material.
- The infield is designed as a storm system that is sized to accommodate all storm runoff for the entire southern portion of the track property, including all rooftop surfaces as well as parking lots and the racetrack surface.
Turf Track
- It measures 4620 ft (1.4 km or 7 furlongs).
- The distance from the last turn to the finish varies.
Other Facilities
The Grandstand
- It is a modern racetrack facility designed by EwingCole.
- General admission seating on track level, including a grassy park area with free weekend children’s activities (weather permitting).
- Outside on the third floor are boxes, reserved seats in the Grandstand, and reserved seats in the fifth-floor indoor clubhouse.
- Pari-mutuel windows are located on each floor to place wagers. There are eight food stands and six beverage services throughout the facility.
Barn area
- It has 11 barns for horsemen
- 116 stalls
- 22 tack and feed storage areas
- six trainer offices
- 12 hay and straw storage areas
- 10 wash racks;
- 13 dorm rooms for grooms
- six mechanical hot walkers.
- Each stall is 10 feet (3.0 m) by 12 feet (3.7 m) in size.
- Each stall is padded with plywood wainscot kickboards for the horse’s protection.
Washington Racing Hall of Fame
- It is located on the track level of the Grandstand.
- Inductees are recognized in five categories: jockeys, trainers, horses, breeders, or lifetime achievement.
- Several individuals inducted into this hall of fame have also been recognized at the Washington state level for sports excellence and are inductees in the State of Washington Sports Hall of Fame. These individuals include Basil James, Joe Gottstein, Russell Baze, and Albert Johnson.

- It is located on the track level.

- It is located on the 5th floor.
Sales pavilion
- The Morris J. Alhadeff Sales Pavilion
- Home for the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association (WTBOA).
- The entire structure, including the sales arena and 4,400 square feet (410 m2) of office space, is 17,300 square feet (1,610 m2).
Paddock and saddling area
- Covered horse saddling area.
- Paved surfaces around the paddock and up to the saddling area.
Equine hospital
- Funded jointly by Northwest Racing Associates, track veterinarians, the families of Mike and Ken Alhadeff, and private contributors, the Morris J.
- Alhadeff Equine Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility by the Emerald Downs Veterinary Association.
- The vet clinic includes:
- Surgery suite
- Two padded induction/recovery rooms
- Radiology room
- Prep room for minor procedures
- Isolation stall (for contagious ailments)
- Darkroom for film developing

- There is no dining service; guests can only order food and beverages at any concession stand, including Quick Pix Café.

- This location is ideal for meetings, banquets, fundraisers, weddings/wedding receptions, holiday parties, and tradeshows.
- It is the largest banquet room.
- It measures 4260 sqft – 60’x 71′.
- The reception capacity is 400.
- The Banquet capacity is 400.
- The theater’s capacity is 400.
- The classroom capacity is 168.
The Suites
- It is located at the pinnacle of the Grandstand.
- The Suites are named after the three major horse races in the United States, Preakness, Belmont, and Derby. A newly added suite opened in 2019, the Mountain View Suite.
- Belmont – 322 sqft – 14’x23′ – capacity is 15.
- Preakness – 644 sqft – 23’x28′ – capacity is 40.
- Derby – 705 sqft – 15′ x 47′ – capacity is 35.
- Mountain View – 621 sqft – 23′ x 27′ – capacity is 35.
Council Room
- It is a private balcony located on the fifth floor.
- The tables have their televisions, with a bank of televisions on the back wall.
- It measures 1058 sqft – 23′ x 46′.
- The capacity of Reception is 64.
- The capacity of the Banquet is 64.
Trackside Pavilion
- One of the most popular areas.
- It offers indoor and outdoor space.
- The bar, betting windows, and buffet are conveniently located in the Pavilion.
- It is 2100 sqft – 70′ x 30′.
- The capacity of Reception is 120.
- The capacity of the Banquet is 60.
View Room
- It is located on our fourth floor.
- The bar and betting window is in the adjacent Emerald Room, and the buffet would be served in the View Room.

Live Racing Schedule
- Live Thoroughbred racing is from mid-April through the end of September from Friday through Sunday, including holidays in most seasons.
- Four-day race weeks begin Memorial Day weekend (Fri-Mon) and stay Thursday through Sunday until the season’s end.
- Patrons can watch and bet on 8 races on weeknights and 10 races per race weekend.

Location and Access to the Racecourse
- A Thoroughbred racetrack located south of Seattle at 2300 Emerald Downs Drive in Auburn, Washington. A half-mile east of Highway 167
- Gates open 30 minutes before the first simulcast race of the day.
- Shuttle Bus Service
- It offers a shuttle bus service during live racing hours from Auburn Station.
For Admission
Adult Ticket Prices
- $10 per person, but Friday night’s admission is discounted and only costs $5.
- It includes general admission and a Race Day Program.
- Emerald Rewards Players can have their card swiped for 100 points for admission.
Adult Ticket And Reserved Grandstand Seat
- $13 per person
- It includes general admission, a Race Day Program, and a reserved grandstand seat. (On big event days only)
Youth Ticket
- $5 for ages 5-17. $8 if it includes a reserved seat for a child on big event days only.
- Ages 4 and under receive free admission and do not require a ticket.
Season Admission Passes
- It can be purchased by clicking on Buy Tickets.
Parking
- Free for general parking.
- The preferred parking is limited, costing $10, and available every Saturday and Sunday.
- Patrons with disabilities can park in Lot 3, immediately north of the Grandstand, on a first-come, first-served basis. Accessible transportation includes a van with wheelchair access from the main lot.
- Parking Lot Rental measures 1 million square feet, available for rental during the racing season and beyond.
