The Westchester
On Friday at good ole Belmont they will run the one-mile Westchester. They drew a field of eight going down the Belmont chute. We’ll look at the field and see how it shakes out.
Bourbon Calling comes in off three in a row, draws the rail, and will be a nice price. He is a 32K claim and will be one of the longer prices despite the streak of wins. He looks overmatched to me, and I say he is a pass.
Expressman looks like a horse who is ready for better than what he has shown to date, and I think the 7-furlong Carter was a perfect set up for him. I look for a peak race from him in here and he is where I land.
Dr. Ardito is another who comes in on a roll. He has won six straight races, likes Belmont, and we can see this gelding is dead game. I respect him, but I like Expressman a lot more.
White Abarrio will get a lot of money in here if he goes and I suspect he will. He does have some talent and fast races on his resume, but he is an in and outer and I will take a stand against him in here.
Unbridled Bomber comes in off a 9-length win. He is second off the lay-off and still improving. The trainer is under the radar and underrated so for me this colt would not be much of a surprise.
Weyburn runs a big one now and again. He is not consistent enough for me and I think he would need a lifetime best to win this.
If Zandon goes in here, he should be the favorite and is the one to beat. He hasn’t won in a while, but he has danced some tough dances and gives a good account of himself. He likes Belmont, should love the one turn mile, and again he is the one I think they have to beat.
Repo Rocks has been a new horse and then some since moving to the Jamie Ness barn. I think he might start tailing off and I think he is suspect at a mile. Will the real Reop Rocks please stand up.
I’ll take a shot with Expressman. I think Carmouche can do what he wants in here. He looks set up for a big race and I believe he has that in him.
Let’s see what happens.
