Haydock Park Racecourse
Haydock Park Racecourse is a horse-racing track in Merseyside, North West England, United Kingdom. It opened in 1899, at the Newton-le-Willows.
History of Haydock Park Racecourse
1752 – A series of meetings was first instituted at Newton-le-Willows, two and a half miles away.
1807 to 1898 – Regular meetings were staged at Newton-le-Willows from 1807 until 1898, after which Haydock Park was launched.
1899 – The racecourse opened when the demand for an enormous site arose due to the sport’s growing popularity.
1908 – Sydney Sandon became Secretary of Haydock Park Racecourse, firmly establishing the course as one of the most prestigious in the country.
1939 to 1945 – The course closed.
1946 – The Haydock Park reopened on August 14, 1946.
1963 – The Lancashire Oaks, formerly contested at Manchester, was transferred to Haydock.
1966 – The Vernon’s Sprint Cup was introduced to the Haydock program when Be Friendly won for the popular BBC commentator Sir Peter O’Sullevan.
1990 – The new grandstand was opened, maintaining Haydock’s place as one of the top dual code racecourses in the country.
Achievements and Owner
It was awarded “The Racecourse of the Year “in 1998 and 2000. It is owned and operated by The Jockey Club.

- The nearest station to Haydock Park is Newton-le-Willows, which is regularly serviced by trains from Manchester and Liverpool,
