Spot Plays for Saturday October 28th, 2023
Well, we were able to get Vahva home last weekend and pad the Breeders’ Cup bankroll a bit and we’ll see if we can do it again this week. It’s the last weekend before the big show so it is time to start getting serious.
One way you can do that is take a look at what the Thorograph Numbers and Patterns have to say about The Breeders’ Cup Classic contenders.
You can do that RIGHT HERE.
You can also check out the details of the Past the Wire annual Breeders’ Cup seminar RIGHT HERE. Nobody Does It Better! If it is taking some big swings you are looking for, this is the year to check us out.
Out west at Santa Anita on Saturday they will run the one-mile Lure Stakes. The one-mile turf races at Santa Anita are two turn races. The draw plays a big part which is something to keep in mind for the Breeders’ Cup next weekend. Astronomer has just gotten better and better and comes in off two excellent mile grass races. He is versatile enough to get the lead although the way the pace looks on paper, I expect him to sit a garden pocket type of trip and get the jump on any closers. Antonio Fresu is riding in stellar form, and I believe he will have this gelding in position to win it turning for home. You can meet and learn about this excellent rider Antonio Fresu RIGHT HERE.
There looks to be an awful lot of speed in The Bryan Station at Keeneland and the two favorites, More Than Looks and Talk of the Nation figure to get really good set ups and both will be tough. That said, Mo Stash will be a nice price and can win this with the right kind of trip and ride. He switches back to Luis Saez who won The Transylvania with him over this course and while he has speed, he can sit a trip when ridden that way. Hopefully Luis sees it that way and doesn’t try and have him to close early.
In the next race at Keeneland, The Hagyard Fayette I like Best Actor. I hate the 12 post but he really put it together last time out and he always showed potential. If anyone can work out a trip from out there it is Prat and he has a long enough run into the first turn of this mile and an eighth race to get a decent position. If Prat can work out a trip from out there, I think he runs big.
In The Mother Goose which somehow is now run at the end of October Julia Shining is interesting. I liked her a lot in The Alabama and thought she’d win it. She got beat 57 lengths and I have no clue why. If she runs in here the way I thought she’d run that day I think she wins. If not, I like Occult. She loves Aqueduct and is getting better.
Remember to follow all our Past the Wire platforms Breeders’ Cup week as we and AmWager take you behind the scenes and bring you things you just won’t see or hear anywhere else. We will be out there all week and right through the races.
Have a great weekend and great Breeders’ Cup. See you all there!
