Meydan Racecourse
Meydan Racecourse is a horse-racing track in Nad Al Sheba 1, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It opened in 1981 at Al Meydan Road.
History
In October 1981, horseracing began in the Emirate of Dubai, when the dusty Camel Track hosted the first Thoroughbred race meeting. It was a sprint in a mile and a half, managed by the office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai). Then in early 1992, under the leadership of Colonel Ali Khamis Al Jafleh, a UAE Air Force commander, the Dubai Racing Club was established. The official opening at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse was in March 1992. In 2007, Nad Al Sheba Golf Club ceased its operations due to the rebuilding of the racing complex. Its name was also renamed into Meydan Racecourse.
Then by March 27, 2010, all races held in Nad Al Sheba Racecourse were transferred to Meydan Racecourse, replacing Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.
It is a horse racing and entertainment facility located at Al Meydan Road, Nad Al Sheba 1, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, owned by Dubai Racing Club.
Track Details
The oval distance is1750 meters (8¾ furlongs) while the chute is 1400 meters and 1600 meters, having width is 25 meters (approx. 82ft), banking on the turns is 5.5%, banking on the straightaway is 1.5%, and the distance from final turn to the finish line is 400m (2 furlongs). The turf track is oval distance is 2400 meters (12 furlongs) while the chute is 1200 meters and 2000 meters. The width is 30 meters (approx. 98ft), banking on the turns is 6%, the straightaway is 1.5%, and the distance from the final turn to the finish line is 450m (2.25 furlongs). It can accommodate more than 60,000 spectators, and the grandstand is a mile long. It also offers Meydan Marina and Meydan Hotel, which can offer 285 guestrooms. In addition, visitors can also dine into their several restaurants and enjoy their museum and golf course.
There are also riding lessons hosted by The Emirates Equestrian Centre and Dubai Equestrian Club at this racecourse. If not, exhibitions and business events are available on the track.
