History
A horse racing venue located at Ross Road, Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland. It is serviced by trains and buses from all major cities in the country, and the local station is just 1/2 mile from the track. The nearest major airport is in Cork, an hour and 20-minute drive away.
Operating since 1936, which stages both National Hunt and Flat racing, featuring evening races. It is also acknowledged as one of the most picturesque racecourses globally and one of the foremost tourist destinations in the country due to its abundance of ancient castles, mountainous terrain, and the National Park. It also won the award for the country’s tidiest town in 2011.
Track Details
The track is a left-handed oval of just over nine furlongs for Flat races. It is a sharp track, with the first bend after the winning post being particularly tight. There are no races at a mile or less and no evidence of a significant draw bias. For National Hunt meetings, the track is undulating, left-handed oval with a circuit of around nine and a half furlongs in extent. It is also sharp, with the turn after the winning post being particularly tight. There are six fences to a circuit of the chase course, with three in the dog-legged home straight of under three furlongs. The run-in is around a furlong.
It also offers a Panoramic Restaurant with its private balcony, in which guests can avail a private bar and tote facilities. It also has the Jim Culloty Bar and Maurice O’ Donoghue stand, which overlooks the finishing post, offers patrons a coffee dock and sandwich bar.
For package tickets, BBQ package tickets cost vary between €30 and €40 while hospitality tickets that include a three-course restaurant meal cost €60-75. All tickets can be purchased online, but OAPs and students looking to attend must pay at the gate to receive their discounted rate. Children under 12 are admitted free if accompanied by an adult. Parking is available both inside the track and in the car parks just outside the racecourse.
