The 12th race, Saturday at Wheeling Island, 07.23.15
Good day and thanks for checking in on my blog. In this entry we will be taking an in-depth look at the 12th race from this Saturday’s Wheeling Evening card.
This race is a Grade AA race and will be contested over Wheeling’s 548-yard course.
#1 Varoom Esme – This greyhound comes into this race in very strong form. After competing in stakes races, this brindle female has chalked up a win and a second in her last two starts. In her last race, Varoom broke sharp, went right to the front, and drew away to an impressive six length tally. The winning time was a scorching 29.08 seconds. This will be my “key” greyhound.
#2 Gez Sweet – Sweet is another greyhound in decent form. In her last three races, this 60 pounder has recorded a win and two third place finishes. In her last race, this daughter of Gable Dodge and Tovi The Proud broke very sharply and overcame a little traffic coming out of the first turn to run a decent third. Sweet has never run in the quiniela in a Grade AA race.
#3 WW’s Gustava – This greyhound (along with Varoom Esme and PJ Pure Gold) is one of three greyhounds who come into this race off a win at the Grade AA level. In that race on July 18, this son of Kiowa WW Brother and WW Cava broke well, cleared on the lead, and was never challenged. Will need a similar effort to spring another mild upset.
#4 Kiowa Cue Ball – Cue Ball is a greyhound I will be looking to bet against. After chalking up two consecutive wins in early July, this fawn male is coming into this race off a dismal sixth place finish as the favorite. In that race, this 74 pounder slowed badly in the turns when not on the lead. Obviously needs to clear on the lead to have any chance.
#5 Kiowa Anchor – Anchor will be making his Grade AA debut in this contest. Although this black female is coming into this race off a nice Grade A score, she appears to be overmatched in this contest. Will need a career best effort to land a spot on the board
#6 Cry Firestar – This is a greyhound with plenty of “back class” that is always capable of pulling off an upset. This daughter of Ra Blazer and Cl Happy Jazz is coming into this race off a “sneaky good” effort. Firestar broke well and showed good early speed before encountering some mild trouble in the backstretch and finishing fifth. Is a definite must use (IMO) on most tickets.
#7 PJ Pure Gold – Pure Gold is the only greyhound in this field coming into this race off two consecutive victories. In her last race on July 19, this brindle female broke like a “rocket ship” , opened up a clear lead immediately, and was never challenged. This 59-pounder will almost certainly be one of the wagering favorites.
#8 Hot Water Drive – This is my “wacky longshot” play in the race. Although Drive finished last a week ago, she might get back to her good form of a couple of races ago thanks to her outside post position. If she can clear on or near the lead, this black female could run in the trifecta at a nice price.
Possible Wagers – I will be “keying” the #1 (Varoom Esme) in all of my plays. I think she is in good form and has a great post position. I will be using the #2 (Gez Sweet), #6 (Cry Firestar), #7 (PJ Pure Gold) , and the #8 (Hot Water Drive) with Varoom in quinielas and box exactas.
Thanks for reading and good luck!!
